Argumentative Essay
Should People Be More Aware of Panic Disorder?
“ Hmm, I wonder why my head hurts, what if I have a tumor, or what if I have a blood clot and I'm about to hemorrhage, breathe Cali breathe it's all in my head just go back to sleep. But why does it hurt so bad, is that a light I see? Am I dying? What if I don't wake up tomorrow, will anyone miss me? Why am I shaking now? Its getting dark in here, is this the last of my life? What is happening to me. In and out Cali breathe in and out. My head still hurts, I can't take the pain anymore, I need my mom, I need someone, anyone. This pain, I can't stop shaking and I'm freezing, but why am I sweating. Mommy please help.” Shaking, sweating, crying, screaming, dizziness, having the feeling that you are about to die. These are all symptoms of some one who has Panic Disorder and are effected everyday of their life. This is not a cry for attention or an over reaction to something you are deathly afraid of. It is a cry for help, and a sign saying “ I'm scared can you please help.” Many people compare this disorder to anxiety, which they are alike, but these anxiety attacks and panic attacks both happen for different reasons and can effect you in different ways. Being unaware of this disorder is not healthy for the person with it and the people that are around the person that has it. Being aware of a disorder like this can help many kids, teenagers, and adults today.
This disorder can get to a point where you do not want to leave your house because you are so frightened of getting a panic attack or running into a situation where a panic attack can occur, this is called Agoraphobia. In the YouTube video “ Panic attack with Agoraphobia” Dr. Greg Cason talks about Agoraphobia and what you may feel when experiencing it or the sudden symptoms you feel when it occurs. As Dr. Cason says, Agoraphobia is a fear of leaving your house because you know or you think “ I'm probably going to get a panic attack today so might as well stay in.” “1/3rd of panic disordered patients will move on to agoraphobia” ( Dr. Cason, Greg; Panic disorder with Agoraphobia ) Dr. Cason also states that women are more likely to have this disorder than men, but men hide this disorder with drugs and alcohol.
Panic Attacks can occur randomly or sometimes something might happen to you and you know you are going to get one. “Panic attacks that seem to strike sufferers out-of-the-blue are not without warning after all.” ( Allen, Pg.1) Not only can you get Panic Attacks randomly while you're awake, but you can also get Panic Attacks when you are sleeping ( nocturnal panic attack). The level you reach before you fall asleep is called REM mode ( Rapid Eye Movement) and when people try to sleep they usually think about something or someone. Having Panic Disorder may cause the person to think about something that they fear as they are falling asleep, and as soon as they hit REM mode the thoughts hit them harder and they wake up with a sudden fear of what they were thinking. This problem can cause people to have insomnia or their sleeping schedule can be effected in a bad way. Sometimes, people with nocturnal panic attacks blame these attacks on bad dreams. “But researchers contest this hypothesis considering that nightmares occur during the late and fourth stage of sleep (REM), while nocturnal panic attacks surface earlier. “ (Calm Clinic, Pg 1.) Panic Attacks are bad when you're awake, but how would you feel waking up in the middle of the night in fear?
Have you ever been so scared of something that you always try to avoid it? Or have a phobia of something and try everything in your power to stay away from it? Panic attacks are linked to things you are scared of and phobias you might have and you may not realize it, but it follows them around everywhere they go. “Stephen S. Hall asserts that "irrational fear equals irrational behavior" is the "disabling equation of anxiety disorders" ( Goleman pg 2.) A phobia does not appear out of no where or slowly make its way to you. “ Phobias can often be traced back to underlying trauma in the individual’s life and result from a combination of an ineffective coping mechanism to these situations”(Therarive, pg 1) People have many fears: talking in front of a crowd, being alone in public or at home, being surrounded by to many people, afraid of dying etc. All these fears and phobias do not come out of the blue and can cause someone to have a panic attack.
This disorder effects not only you, but the people that surround you and those who witness the panic attacks you get almost everyday. The first time someone experiences you getting a panic attack they are baffled, scared, and are not sure what to do in a situation like this. To them it may seem as if you want some sort of attention or that you are over reacting, but in your world of a Panic Disorder patient, it is nothing but a scare that effects you for the rest of your life. Sure, there are ways that you can treat this and they are different types of medications and therapies, but sometimes it never works. Medication may help your anxiety and therapy can help you figure out why you get these panic attacks or help you talk about the problem, but that does not mean that it has gone away completely. Your brain stores everything you see, hear, and feel, so thinking “ hey, the meds worked and so did the therapy, so I guess I don't have to worry anymore.” that's not the case. You may think it's gone when really its still in your brain effecting you and you don't even know it.
Having friends and family help you every step of the way makes your life better and you feel like you have no reason to fear. Having this disorder for 9 years and learning about it and seeing that other have it helps me in a way, and tells me that I' am not the only one out there suffering from this. As a kid I had no idea what was going on and that made me even more scared, and realizing that my mom goes through the same thing, helped me because I knew that she knew what I was going through and it helped the both of us. So yes, this is a disorder that everyone should be aware of because it effects people at a point where they are too scared to come out of their house or can't live a normal life without thinking that they are going to die at any second. This is a serious issue around the world and you are capable of helping someone whether you know it or not.

Chorus:
Throw up, Falling down thats everyday
Looking round everybody saying hey
Sweaty hands, Numb legs what should I do
Always feeling blue, Cant walk or move (2x)
End up in a wheel chair
People stare at me
I can barely see
My eyes hurt like hell
Im fighting with my mom
Also trying to be calm
But its starting to break up my family
Verse one:
Anxiety is ruining my life
And it feels like im getting stabbed by a knife
Every night i pray to god
"Angels east angels west north and south just do your best,
You gotta watch me when i go to rest"
This is life, Everyday its a god damn test
Living all alone in this damn cruel world
And im writing this song
to tell you whats wrong
Missing out on all the fun
I always try to run
But i end up falling down
And i always have a frown
Looking all around the room
All the kids are having fun
When the day has just begun
Im already feeling sick
Wish that i could do a trick
To make this disappear
Or else another year
Of this crappy life
Help me God
I need guidance
Everyday, all day, anywhere i go
Or else im gonna end up like a bum
Chorus:
Throw up, Falling down thats everyday
Looking round everybody saying hey
Sweaty hands, Numb legs what should I do
Always feeling blue, Cant walk or move
End up in a wheel chair
People stare at me
I can barely see
My eyes hurt like hell
Im fighting with my mom
Also trying to be calm
But its starting to break up my family

What Goes On In Her Mind
By the looks of her you see a smiling face,
But behind that lie is a scary place.
Her eyes, her dimples, the way she laughs,
Little do you know about her sad past.
It all started at the age of eight,
She does not believe that this is fate.
Her mind it wanders to somewhere she hates to go,
She is scared that her fear will jump out and show.
Thoughts and images crowd her mind and brain,
The only thing that can stop this is some kind of pain.
She then thinks of the one she loves,
And realizes that she's finally had enough.
Shaking, sweating, crying, and screaming,
She doesnt know how to start that thing called breathing.
Lying there not knowing what to do or what to say,
She thinks to herself " what happened to this day?"
She remembers all the fun and laughs she had with her friends,
It's sad to think that all of that came to an end.
She knows that her mother goes through the same thing,
She then hears her phone " ring ring ring"
Scared to answer and hear who's on the other line,
She starts to count backwards starting with nine.
9.8.7....6.5.4....3..2...1
" This isn't a good time I'll call you when I can"
But the voice on the other line sounds like a man...
" What you're going through runs in your blood,
You are what i created with love not mud.
Giving you this disorder was part of my plan,
Too see if you can make it like your mother can.
Don't let the thoughts and fears run through your mind,
Remember that you're strong, wiser and kind.
I am not stating my name or what i do,
But you should always remember that I Love You"
The phone went dead and she looked at the fan,
She thought about the voice that sounded like a man.
She believes that she can fight this fear,
So get ready and get in gear.
She starts to get up and wipes her eyes,
She gets stronger and stronger and stops her cries.
As she walks out of her room with a bright light hitting her face,
She see her family and her friends and feels safer in this place.

Essential Questions
My main question when writing this blog was : Should people care more about this disorder?
This question helps my other questions give others and myself a better udnerstanding. Which treatment would beneficial to those with this disorder? How can kids prevent getting this disorder? What if you had this disorder and became anti social? Why do you think this is a big deal to the people that do not have it, but know someone who has it?

HYPOTHESIS
Panic Attack Disorder effectsaffects children, teenagers and adults everyday. 0.7% of people with this disorder start to get it as a child, and I was part of that percentage. Many people do not think that this disorder is serious and is the same thing as anxiety, but they are two completely different things. This disorder affects people physically, mentally, and emotionally and makes them live a life of being scared 24/7. Not only does this disorder affect the person that has it, but it also affects the people around them and the emotions they feel when they see their loved one go through this all the time and how they react to the symptoms. Even though a lot people do not know what this disorder is, does not mean they should not care.
CONTEXT
Writing this blog and making this survey was too reach out to those who are unaware of this disorder, so my audience was targeted mainly on those who do not know what it is, or those who have it and want to learn more about their disorder. I chose these respondents because they were unaware of what the disorder was or knew someone or is that someone who has experienced these symptoms and knows what this does to certain people. My results on the survey were reliable because 50% did not know what this disorder was and 50% knew someone who has this disorder and gave me the results that I needed. I did not have to change any of the questions for my audience because they understood what I was getting at on the survey and knew how to formally answer my survey.

What do you think causes panic attacks?
DATA ANALYSIS
Looking at the results I received on my survey I was over whelmed at what I saw. Yes, I was giving my survey to those who did not know what it was but realizing that some did not even think that it was important made me upset. This IS a disorder that people in the world go through everyday and they do experience these symptoms almost everyday. Waking up and fearing that you might have a panic attack does not make your day go by any easier. Making this blog I hope will give people a better understanding on these different disorders and how they can affect people in different ways and how they can affect the people that they are surrounded by everyday.
One of my questions asks if panic attacks affect children more than adults, and some put that it does not. This is not true because children and teenagers have different thoughts on what is going on when they get these panic attacks and are scared of whats going to happened to them. Children do not know what is going on and can sometimes fear many more things because of what they are thinking and teenagers sometimes get thoughts that they are not suppose to get and affect them even more than it is suppose too. Adults get panic attacks and are affected very badly ,badly, yes ,yes, but children are more naïve to the situation and sometime may think that something will happen to them if they tell someone. So, children and teenagers feel more pain when they get panic attacks but some adults start feeling less of the pain as the years go by.
People like to assume that the ones that get panic attacks just get them because their over reacting about something or is just scared, quite the contrary. To get a panic attack you have to have a fear of something or a phobia and it usually scares you when you think about it. Many often think that having depression causes panic attacks, but panic attacks usually end up causing depression or other things like schizophrenia. Loneliness is also a result to panic attacks and can soon become a fear whichfear, which makes the situation a lot worse. Some of us do not know how to forget a fear or live without it because you’ve been living with that fear your whole life and it becomes a part of you. So, panic attacks are not easy to get rid of and can cause more than just a panic.
CONCLUSION
Looking back at my hypothesis I realized that my guess was correct. It is true that there are a lot of people out there that are unaware of this disorder and do not know what people go through when they have a panic attack. I was shocked when people did not even write down what they think it is and just assumed that it was a bad disorder. Once you know about and experienced someone having a panic attack you will understand how hard life is for that one person. I can conclude that people do not know what this disorder is and how it affects people in everyday life. I would like people to realize how serious this disorder can get and that there can be ways to cure it but some people choose not too.
FOLLOW UP
After using this research and seeing peoples point of views on panic attack disorder, I want to let people know how everyday someone gets one of these panic attacks and their symptoms get worse and worse. I would like people to know that if they know someone who has this disorder that they should comfort that person and tell him or her that everything will be okay no matter what happens to you. Having someone love and care and understand what your going through makes this a lot easier and makes you live life better.

Story Behind it.
Panic Attack Disorder effects many teenagers and also many adults. I was diagnosed with panic attack disorder at the age of 9, but my symptoms started showing at the age of 8. This disorder is not heard by many because not a lot of people have heard of it and do not believe this is real. You can get panic attacks from anything that scares you or makes you feel nervous and uncomfortable like driving on a highway, going over bridges, or even phobias. Only 0.7% of kids suffer from Panic/ Anxiety disorder and being part of that percentage effects me and the way i grow up. Waking up everyday wondering if your going to get one that day leaves you in fear all day and can effect you socially, physically, and mentally. Having this panic 24/7 is not what a kid, teenager, or adult should go through in everyday life. Kids go through this differently and are affected in a different ways then teenagers. Teens with this can feel as if they are living a dream or feel like they are dying, while kids do not get these symptoms or thoughts. Panic attacks are serious and can emotionally disable someones health. Though this disorder can be treated by many different types of medications or psychotherapys, people with this disorder may not want to go through this and wake up everyday just to take medicine so they can live a normal life.
